As of today, the traditional digital aerial television DVB-T (Digital Video Broadcast – Terrestrial), which has been available until now, will be switched off and users of this receive path now have the option to switch to the new digital standard DVB-T2 or to choose an alternative solution. The main innovations of DVB-T2 include a larger number of receivable channels, the possibility to watch HD channels based on particular technical conditions as well as a fee for the reception of the large private channels from July, 1st 2017. At first the changeover will be implemented in areas with high population density and the rest of Germany is going to follow afterwards. As an alternative to DVB-T2, TV reception is available via cable, satellite or the internet.
